Indecision and having a lot going on are two states of being that can derail our creativity, but in different ways. This blog is not about indecision because while it can be creatively paralyzing, it is a distinct issue from not doing the work that matters because you’ve already got a lot going on.

In the instance of “too much else going on”… you’ve already made a decision: your creative work will have to wait.

Which always begs the question: ‘til when?

Our creative work can seem deceptively unnecessary because it’s not about protecting our and others’ physical survival. There is a lot of maintenance to be tended to when it comes to that: accessing healthcare, doing the dishes, raising children, paying the rent…and here’s the thing:

That survival stuff? It never stops.

But is that all you’re here for?

Sure, shit happens and life can stop you in its tracks. But even then, if you hold the work in your mind, if you maintain the belief in and intention to get back to it as soon as possible, while circumstances may force you to change your approach, you’ll never stay derailed from it for long.

The artists and entrepreneurs who have my admiration are the ones who, despite the vicissitudes of life, are always creating. Even when they’re between places to live or can’t afford to get the roof fixed.

I’m proud to say that some of them became that way after having been my client.

Please note that I am not lauding the starving artist here. I’m applauding the ones that make no excuses. And now more than ever, artists and creators have a lot to say that needs to be heard, seen and experienced.

You have it in you to be one of them. And if you don’t believe me, we need to talk.
